Report: Weaver trying to sell Jaguars
Posted: Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
The Times-Union
The Jaguars had no immediate comment Wednesday night on a Philadelphia
Daily News report that team owner Wayne Weaver is negotiating to sell
the team to billionaire C. Dean Metropoulos, who could move the team to
Los Angeles.
Team spokesman Ryan Robinson said Weaver was traveling on Wednesday and
wouldn’t be available until today.
Metropoulos, 61, the former chairman and chief executive officer of New
Jersey-based Pinnacle Foods, denied the newspaper’s report.
“I must tell you I haven’t had any such discussions,” Metropoulos was
quoted in the Daily News. “I wouldn’t know how to give you any
credibility to that because I don’t know anything about it.”
The Daily News reported that discussions between Weaver and Metropoulos
are being brokered by Sal Galatioto of the New York sports investment
firm Galatioto Sports Partners. The newspaper reported that Metropoulos
previously has tried to buy two other NFL franchises — the Oakland
Raiders and the Miami Dolphins — but was unsuccessful.
Metropoulos, according to the report, is interested in a 100 percent
purchase of the Jaguars, though unnamed sources told the paper he would
keep Weaver on for two years while he learns how to operate an NFL
franchise. The sources told the newspaper that Metropoulos would bring
in minority partners with him, and that the Jaguars would be a candidate
to move to Los Angeles, which is seeking an NFL team.
Weaver has consistently denied any interest in selling in the team,
though he acknowledged last year that has was looking for additional
investors for the franchise.
The Jaguars, who joined the league in 1995, reached the second round of
the AFC playoffs last season, but had three of their eight home games
blacked out because they weren’t sold out. They’re often mentioned in
media reports as a candidate to move to Los Angeles, but Weaver has
consistently denied that the team is for sale.

Leonard 07-13-2008, 04:27 AM But they won't support it..............again, and while a big TV market, the
team will move to San Antonio or some city likely to support it. But for a
year or so, you can buy your shirts, hats and whatever paraphenalia. I'll
go out on a limb for a team name. LA Locomotion. Great
cheerleaders...........fabulous actually, they will put the Goldrush to
shame, but not enough to keep the team afloat or in LA for more than a year
or three.

He's posts the same crapola every year, hoping against all hope that
the NFL will actually find a way to get LA interested in NFL football.
The Goodyear Blimp in Carson would be a bigger draw than the LA
Locomotion.

One of the odd things about LA is how few people here actually seem to
be from here. This is particularly true if you're talking about educated
whites - and LA is so spread out that you tend not to run into people
from other socioeconomic strata that much unless you want to.
But a result of that is the existence of a large section of L.A.'s
population - particularly the demographic that can afford to go to games
- which doesn't really want a local team. I'm a Niner fan, and if we get
a local LA team, that will reduce the number of Niner games broadcast
locally.
This isn't as big a deal in other sports. A Laker game being broadcast
doesn't come at the expense of a Knick game being broadcast anywhere
near as often. But with the NFL, it does.

Now you're resorting to sadly written lines from a lame ass movie?
Walter, how much lower can you sink? And that's saying something or a
guy who lives under a rock.
What are you going to do next? Stand out by the freeway near Carson
and wear a sandwich board advertising for the new NFL team?
