So saith the Globe. This continues our fine tradition of picking up
centers who shouldn't have been drafted as high as they were. (See
also Potapenko, #12 pick, and Olowokandi, #1 pick.)
.... I'm reminded that Potapenko was drafted ahead of Kobe Bryant, Steve
Nash, Jermaine O'Neal, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Derek Fisher, and Walter
McCarty. What were they thinking?
Anyway, O'Bryant's numbers are very poor, which may be due to the fact
that Nellie wouldn't know what to do with a seven footer if you held a
basketball a foot over his head. Nellie's, not the tall guy's.
His per 36 numbers are vaguely respectable, and he does block shots.
The sample size is way too small for real conclusions, though.
On a personal level, it was confusing enough during the playoffs to have
a player named "Bryant" around. I really disapprove of having one on
the Celtics.
