View Full Version : people outside of Seattle
Hail-To-The-Thief 07-08-2008, 04:19 PM Anyone think people outside of Seattle will treat that city with the
same contempt LA got when it lost the Rams (and Raiders)?

Georgia on my mind.

No.
Seattle lost 1 franchise from the 3rd most popular major league sport
LA lost TWO franchises of America's favorite sport. Pretty pathetic.

Or fourth. NASCAR is probably more popular. That's right, rednecks
driving pointlessly in circles is more popular than the elaborate
fraud known as NBA basketball. Pathetic.

From what I've heard, officials in WA rejected a plan in March to allow
a local investment group to put some cash into renovating Key Arena.
Although the tame name and colors will stay in Seattle, there is no
guarantee that the city will get another team. (does that part sound
familiar!?)
As hurtful as it is for the folks in Seattle, it's a business, and the
franchise isn't obligated to stay in the area. Just like the Rams and
the OAKLAND Raiders were not obligated to stay here..no matter how crazy
it was for the Rams to leave, Man...Starbucks is closing 600 locations,
now this.
In case anyone is interested her is the link of a statement from the
Mayor of Seattle:

The former Sonics owner had a clause in his sales contract stipulating the
new owners would make a serious effort to stay in Seattle. They didn't.
Luckily for the new owners, the league (Stern) doesn't give a shit about
fans or cities, only gross revenue. Fuck the NBA, fuck Stern (with an
ungreased pole, sideways), & forgive anyone who still thinks this is about
sports.
Go Bolts !

I can't even make the argument for gross revenue since it is going to a
market substantially smaller than the Seattle area. There was nothing more
to this move than "Hey I wanna buy a team and bring it to my hometown".

LA still has three fairly popular sports franchise in the Dodgers, the
Angels (no longer just Anaheim) and the Clippers. Okay, two
successfule and one pathetic sports franchise. Soccer doesn't count.
