Well, Ritchie is no longer an A!!!
He has been traded to the Chicago Cubs along with Chad Gaudin from pitcher
Sean Gallagher, Outfielders Matt Murton and Eric Patterson and minor leaguer
John Donaldson.
Can't say I am surprized by this of course.
Hope these guys are good.

......Good? I just hope one of them can play 3rd base, and one can play
1st base. They can't hit any worse than Hannahan or Barton.

Their numbers aren't too impressive.
A lot of "potential" not realized!
Unfortunately, they are OF; OF/2nd base; P; P; and C.
Maybe we can covert them any of them!!

I don't mind trading Harden, as long as we get someone to help at least in
the DH area or OF, or 3rd, or 1st. This is a bunch of shit that Beane has
brought us. The Haren trade turned out to be brilliant, but, I can't see how
this one can possibly rank up there as amongst Beane's good moves. Unless of
course if they know something about Harden they aren't letting on to.

This is part of being an A's fan. We have to win differently.

Beane could be thinking three things:

1) Harden is too fragile to count on, but he's been playing well lately.
Trade him now, before he hits has his next DL trip and has zero trade value.

2) The A's aren't going anywhere this year, even with a healthy Harden. Get
rid of him now and save about $1 million this year and $4.5 million next
year. Get some prospects.

3) Harden could very well get hurt before the trade deadline. Get a mess of
prospects now, then trade them by the end of the month for a player or two
that could help us win this year.

I'm guessing number 1 is probably the best reason. I think Gaudin's
basically a sweetener, a very replaceable journeyman.

I've rooted for past A's teams that had no one on the current roster and
I'll root for future A's team that have no one on the current roster. Just
part of the deal of being an A's fan.

"Just part of the deal of being an A's fan."

A's fans like you are stupid, self-declared martyrs. As long as you
accept management's questionable methodology and keep supporting the
team, they'll keep treating you like a Cubs fan.

By the way, how's that working out for you?

You forgot the part about winning more games this century than any
major league team except the Yankees. What are we supposed to do,
picket the Coliseum and demand less success?

We're A's fans, not Giants fans.... we want more than just to win games. ; )

Playoff success not withstanding, of course.

At least the Giants made the World Series this decade. When was the
last time Billy Beane made it to the World Series?

Good point. I'm not a money ball fan at all. Money call has been proven for
some measure of success for certain, but that success will only go so far,
and has not gone to the World Series, or even beyond the first round of
playoffs _IF_ they even get that far. And besides that, what has this
revolving door of popular players done for fan attendance? Money ball sucks.
I long for the Haas family. Billy Beane should go, along with Jack Cust.

You better not hope these guys are good, 'cause if they are they're
goners come contract time. So don't get emotionally gooey over them,
'cause they'll be gone to the majors soon.

And THAT'S nuts, too. So what? How many championships have the Giants
won since coming west?????? As much as living in the past is for the
birds.....at least A's fans have that.

I sometimes think that BB needs to enter a 12 step program for "excessive

This discussion is about the Beane era, which means anything prior to
1998 is irrelevant.
