Fuck Gay Bennett. He has to change the name. He can't call them the
Sonics. He will change the name to the Oklahomo Bombers.

Perhaps we already saw the handwriting on the wall. The NBA conspired with
Bennett to take the Sonics. It was signed sealed and deliered the day
Bennett bought them.

Last I checked, Bennett owns the team. The city doesn't. Wah.

The interesting thing about that statement is it's not completely out
of the realm of possiblity for THAT team to get relocated to Seattle.
I know they weren't really successful in BC, but they had their
diehards who would be happy to see them in Seattle. Could be a long
time though because I think they are under lease in Memphis until 2016
or something like that!

Oh goody... Charles Beauchamp.

There's no sense getting all upset, Charles. The city had a choice to
make, and the city knew that if it chose in a way Mr. Bennett didn't
like that he would very likely take the Sonics elsewhere. That's just
business, and taking it personally is plain stupid, childish, and naive.

Kudos to the city of Seattle for sticking by their decision not to pay
for an upgrade of Key Arena; that's the city's right and the choice was
certainly theirs to be made. Having said that, it's the owner's team,
not the city's. If he wants to move it to the North Pole, and can do so
within the rules of the NBA and the laws of the land, that's his right.

Seattle made their choice, and Bennett made his. Deal with it.

Psst..again asshat....where is the original thought? The only thing I'm
taking "personally" is a douchebag Ravens fan blathering at fans of a
franchise they actually supported for an entire generation losing it to
another city for no reason fault of the fans. Your as always speaking out
your ass without a clue what you are talking about. You won't find anyone
on this side of the country that doesn't know who owns the team idiot. You
also are clearly clueless as to how this all went down.

> Kudos to the city of Seattle for sticking by their decision not to pay

Actually that isn't what the city position was at all...which again shows
you don't know what you are talking about. The cities position had been and
remains that upgrades to Key Arena should have sufficed. This owner that
you are sorta defending held one single position from the outset. That a
brand new arena was required in order for him to keep the team in Seattle.
His "proposal" amounted to a $500m arena fully tax payer funded. Mr.
Bennet's position was that since he purchased the team that amounted to his
contribution. Throughout this interaction he always stated that an upgraded
Key Arena was not acceptable. He had one position. Give him a brand new
arena or he would take the team away.

Having said that, it's the owner's team,

And as always...if that is all you have then you ain't got much. But thank
you for jumping into this forum and informing the fans that it is the
owner's team. I am sure no one here knew that. BTW....tis fully an
applicable position for a Christian to point to a fool and identify them as

You sound like one of those Corporatists who just thinks it's all good
for rich people to do whatever they want regardless of what the rest
of the population thinks. Bennett lied in his agreement to buy the
team. I guess you support and approve of his lies? He was supposed
to make a good-faith effort to find an arena solution. Is demanding a
550 billion palace a good-faith effort? FUCK NO!!! And word to all
the local polititians who turned down 150 billion from Balmer and
company. FUCK YOU TOO!

Former grizz fan here--actually, they were pretty successful,
attendance-wise, considering how shitty they were for their entire run
in Vancouver. About the middle of the NBA attendance numbers.

I forget the guy's name, but there was a guy from St. Louis--married to
the heir to Walmart money--who wanted to buy the Grizz but he didn't make
any secret of his desire to move the team so it wasn't approved.
Heisley, on the other hand, pretended he was going to try to make a go
of it in Van, even singing the Canadian anthem before one game.

It was complete and utter bullshit. The team quit marketing before
their last season in Vancouver; people weren't contacted about renewing
season tickets, and those who called the team about ordering tickets
just got an answering machine and never were called back.

Heisley deliberately crashed that team to justify moving them to Memphis.

It turned me off the NBA, and now seeing this--the loss of a Seattle
franchise I remember watching faithfully when I was in high school in
the 70s, I am further reminded of what a joke the league has become.

I feel for the Seattle fans--you are also victim of the "Yeehaw, we jest
bought us'n a big league team with'n that there staydeeum fixin' tax
money we gots from that levy on moonshine" syndrome.

At least you still have the Mariners and the Seahawks. All we have is
a hockey team doomed to dwell in at least a couple more years of
playoff-missing mediocrity.

Which team do you guys get on the local tv when you need an NBA fix?
They don't still give you Griz now that they are in Memphis, do they?
Some people down here think we are still gonna be seeeing OklaSonics
on FSN. Have you B.C.'ers been following the Sonics since it has
been your closest team the last few years, or have you turned to the
Raptors becuase it's the only other Canadian team? Personally I liked
when the GRizzlies were in Vancouver because it gave us sort of a 3
team rivalry in the northwest!

I hoped for nothing but the worst for the Memphis Grizzlies--and it's sad
but they'll probably keep the name Sonics in OK, just like they didn't
change the Grizz to the Memphis Dead Elvises or something--but most
people I know were so disgusted by the way things went down we quit
watching or following the league.

Having said that, the media coverage of the grizz continued a little for
the first year or so--we didn't get game broadcasts, but results were
included in the sports hilights along with the Sonics and Raptors.

Most people I know hated and still hate Toronto--the "Canada's Team"
thing is a bit hard to take, and it's shoved down our throats with
baseball as well. Most would cheer for the Sonics probably over TO.

Sad now, though. Maybe Portland?

No, Charles... was simply an indication of weariness with your usual
reply when you have nothing but an emotional argument on your side.

It's amazing how I haven't seen probably more than two posts from you in
a year and I'm already tired of you. As for the cross-post, save your
bleating in my direction, as I didn't start the thread.

That is sad! I didn't know the Grizzlies very well during the time
they were in Vancouver. The Sonics were going really strong at that
time so the local media down here didn't cover the Grizzlies except
during head to head games with the Sonics. I hope you can get to see
some Blazer games up there, I'm hoping that for Seattle too! Portland
looks to have made several good moves at building for the future and
finally clearing out that JailBlazer mentallity.
