View Full Version : Fast becoming the league's best GM.
Frank Rizzo 06-27-2008, 06:40 PM Snagging Bayless was brilliant. I like Rush, but he was a backup to
Roy. Bayless will be a starter....Great job..

Dan invented a word for the trade partners pritchslapped.
Liked this blog on him:

It may still be premature to put together one of these typical 'Winner and
Losers' posts, because I'm certain Kevin Pritchard still has it in him to
work over one more general manager.
I realize I have it in the bag for the Trail Blazers GM, but how can you
not? He's got a plan - which already puts him a step ahead of 75% of the
league, and he's thoroughly executing that mission, not content to just sit
around and let things happen. Pritchard is making it happen, and made a lot
of moves last night, determined to break his one night trade record for the
previous draft.
Obviously Chicago and Miami made out well, but here are the other draft
night successes:
The Winners
Portland Trail Blazers I'm still not positive I have this right, but in the
end Pritchard acquired the draft's top point in Jerryd Bayless, a 4th year
pro in Ike Diogu, and then arguably one of the best European stars in
Nicolas Batum, whom he can let develop in France for a few years. In all of
his wheeling and dealings, he also picked up a handful of future draft
picks.
As I stated last night, Jerryd Bayless is the perfect compliment for Greg
Oden and Brandon Roy. You may not like that he passed on Brandon Rush, but
with Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw already filling that need, I don't
think the former Jayhawk was necessary, even though, I too, think he's an
immediate impact player.
Enjoy the run you're about to begin, Blazer fans. John Canzano summed the
night up well:
"Dr. Deal entered the day with five draft picks, and so the Blazers
selected Brandon Rush (Kansas), Darrell Arthur (Kansas), Joey Dorsey
(Memphis), Omer Asik (Turkey) and Mike Taylor (Iowa State). Then, Pritchard
traded every one of them away.
Josh McRoberts is gone, too. Also, Jarrett Jack gone. Oh, and Pritchard
traded for Ike Diogu. Pritchard also netted Arizona guard Jerryd Bayless,
the No. 11 pick. And the Blazers also end up with Nicolas Batum of France,
which amounts to a clever use of a Euroleague roster pawn. Also, Portland
got four future second-round picks.
Before Thursday, maybe you believed the Blazers needed a small forward and
a point guard. Today, what they need is roll call.
If you're a Blazers fan you have to love all the good action, and the
drama, and the fact that the front office of your basketball franchise is
playing to win. And as long as Pritchard has the confidence of owner Paul
Allen, and the autonomy to work deals, draft day is always going to be more
fun in Portland than it is in Chicago, Los Angeles or New York. Or probably
anywhere else.
Don't take this for granted, Portland."

I read two "draft reviews so far" one gave PDX an A, the other an A+.
Both cited Pritchard as fast becoming the best and most daring GM in
the league. I would have to agree. If he isn't the best, he's close
enough to be in the conversation. So, in short, you have the youngest
team, a team that is expected to be in the playoffs this year, a deep
team, arguably the best GM and the richest owner who is willing to
spend money, a fanatical base, and a new arena.
How do you feel about the future of the Blazers????

It's not brand new, but it's a newer arena. It's still "state of the
art" as opposed to a few others like MSG. I drove by it several
years ago right after it was built. I know it's been some time, like
ours down here. But compared to some of the arenas it's "new". You
glossed over the point to get a nit picky correction in. You have a
state of the art arena that is as good as new, and as good as any,
along with all the other "bests".

You are just sooo smiley impaired...

Since he bought it back and made repairs it looks better. Still needs work.
The new scoreboard is specatcular...
Two years ago you were lucky if the seats section was not broken...
The fans are back for sure. last 25 games were sold out and some sold
standing room even after they were eliminated.
That last game was absolutely electric.
They are down to less than 400 full season tickets for sale next year.
But I am just a pragmatic person and although I can hardly wait til next
year I am not setting myself up. They are being declared a dynasty in some
quarters on potential...they have not won anything yet and being built
around a guy that has not yet played a game. I love what they are doing but
we all know how fast thing can melt down in the nba...

the last game was almost like a script to a movie, it seemed surreal
at times.
I don't want to hear about dynasties before they even make the
playoffs. They need to win a series in the playoffs before we hear
about finals appearances. And win on before the dynasty crap starts.

A cheesy movie at that with those two fast break reverse dunks by Travis...
