View Full Version : KP bought another pick
Terraholm 06-25-2008, 02:04 PM 27th from the Bobcats.
Think they plan to trade up to 6th for the two picks as rumored? Or trade
down?

I think they will trade up, or trade for veteran. They have enough
players, actually too many if you include the picks. Something's
cookin'. You know KP on draft day, wheelin' and dealin. Maybe he can
pry the #2 from Miami. Maybe he can trade for Chauncey Billups in a
package deal. Can't wait to see what he is up to. I like aggressive
GMs like KP (ex Warrior BTW)...

Could well be. But there are other likely posibilities
They have enough

They have room for the picks.
Out of the 15 signed Von Wafer is a FA
Miles was already waived and is off the cap
McRoberts is a team option.
That makes room for 2 picks and Rudy even without doing a 2 for 1 trade.
Plus a 4th spot could be obtained because Raef is basically an ending
contract they plan to use not trade, so he can be bought out or waived.
And they might not plan to add both picks now but want them.
One thing is that one mock have them taking the french guy Ajinca at 13th
while another has him dropping to 27th spurs or 28th blazers. He is not NBA
ready and that is why he is dropping like a rock. Like Rudy he would stay in
Euro league a year or two

I do not doubt KP has tried that. But I think more likely to happen are they
are working on the Knicks #6 or Bucks #8 to try for westbrook or Alexander

I doubt he trades for anyone with a big contract past next season. They are
also too young to add Billups as they are looking down the road 2 or three
years before starting their run as a contender likely as not.
Besides they are expecting the two 6-6 combo guards to be the backcourt by
next year I think. They may just stick with Blake or JJ1 for PG for another
year unless something better and younger than Billups that fits in turns up.
Perhaps adding a star veteran is more the plan for next summer. Go FA
shopping. They will be somewhere between 1 and 2 max contracts under the
cap.

He is fun to watch. But sooner or later his luck will balance out, no one is
that good.

Jerry West? Red? You never know.....as long as he keeps the
contracts of supporting cast 3 years or shorter, he can play without
too much of a problem. Tie up Oden and Roy for long term, jury is out
on LMA as to how long...

Jury is in....he is good 'sheed....baring some collapse LMA is staying one
way or another, extension or as a RFA finding his market level and them
matching. If he improves as expected likely gets a full 5 year extension.
Will not be a problem.
Next year they can go free agent shopping and the first 2 extensions will
not kick in until the following year.
After that if they are winning Allen will not care about going over the tax
limit. Or so he told the last GM.
>Jerry West? Red?
West made plenty of mistakes in Memphis and some in LA. Some of KPs sucess
is having the right owner with deep pockets and a free rein.

And now Jones has opted out.

We don't know HOW good yet though. Is he "max contract good" since
they already will have to pay two of those.

They will not give him max on an extension is my guess. But they may well
have to as a RFA the next year if he does not settle for less.
There is always a gamble both ways...

Well if nobody offers him the max, you think he would want to be on

They are high on LMA.
Remember this?
The blazers put it together just to promote him for most improved...
http://www.ripcityrising.com/
They have also invited him to play on the practice team vs the olympic team.
Nate is one of the assistant coaches and that is great training.
http://hoopinion.blogspot.com/2008/06/horford-on-usa-select-team-and.html
we will start with an exclusive look at the USA Select Team, courtesy of a
“piece of paper we found on the floor,” which just happens to have the
entire roster, plus the alternates. This is the group of players which could
possibly graduate onto the next crop of invites to the USA Men’s Senior
National Team, after the Olympics. The players will scrimmage against the
senior team this summer to help them prepare for the Olympics in Beijing.
Point Guard: Rodney Stuckey, Derrick Rose
Shooting Guard: Kevin Martin
Small Forward: Andre Iguodala, Jeff Green
Power Forward: Al Horford, Kevin Durant
Center: LaMarcus Aldridge, Al Jefferson
Alternates: O.J. Mayo, Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, Monta Ellis, Devin
Harris
Also invited were Brandon Roy, who will be resting this summer and finishing
up his degree at the University of Washington, and David West, who wants to
rest after an extremely long season. They will still be in the mix for the
future.

I remember the promotion. He's a very good player. My point was that
you have 2 franchise players to pay over the next couple of years,
PLUS LMA. Thankfully, I don't think Allen will mind the luxury tax,
so you should be ok.

They will try to keep under it, but it is not a hard cap I suspect...
My guess is they offer a little below max with a team option and incentives
if he improves more this summer.
But I would not be shocked to see them wait until he is a restricted free
agent.
Each way is a gamble and depends on market and guessing how much they will
be worth a year later.
