View Full Version : Thoughts from a Cards fan

As a Cardinals fan living in MT, the Mariners are the team that Fox
Sports plays in my area. So since I am a huge baseball fan (ANY
baseball game is better than anything else on TV), I watch most M's
games. And since I watch most of these M's games, I've found myself
rooting for them, in the AL at least.

But as many of you probably know, that's a tough thing to do this
season. If you regularly watch a team play (and I HAVE to watch), you
at least hope they are competitive. Which brings me to a few
questions/points.

First....what the hell is Sexson still doing in the Major Leagues? Is
it a contract issue? If it is, the M's are getting raped. Finding
someone cheaper to hit .200 with occasional pop wouldn't be
difficult....and his new batting stance isn't helping. This guy should
have been out of MLB a few years ago, yet the Mariners keep sending him
out there to K or hit warning-track fly outs.

Next, Felix Hernandez. Fun guy to watch and the only arm on the team
worth a shit. But could Mariners brass have coddled him any longer??
Great game the other day until he got hurt, but it seems this guy would
be tougher if he were, um, weened. They have been TOO careful with him
in the past, and I can't help but wonder if all the babying is affecting
his toughness.

Jojima. Screw Nintendo...this guy is average. Like Ichiro, he pulls
his head out of the box way too early with each swing, but with
Ichiro...it works, most seasons.

Beltre won the MVP with the Dodgers while juiced out of his gourd,
signed a HUGE deal with Seattle, got off the 'roids, lost 20 lbs...and
sucked for a few years as his body readjusted. (yeah, sometimes reality
sucks) He also raped the Mariners, but is finally coming around. His
glove is second to few, but it's hard to get over the contract they gave
him after a juiced MVP season in L.A.. Some of that money could have
been better spread around, especially since he hit around .220 for his
1st few years in Seattle as his body deflated and had to rebuild.

Ibanez....gotta like this guy.

It's obvious the needs Seattle must fill, but with ridiculous contracts
and decision making (Sexson is STILL playing????), it may be awhile
before they are decent again. I am angry for you.
