Doug Smith reported that the Raptors are trying to trade Ford, Rasho
and 17th pick for Jermaine O'Neal.

One injury prone guy for another. Interesting.

O'Neal is a better fit than Diaw, but at least Diaw can play SF.

Diaw is pretty good, but that's our problem, we have AP, JK, JM, and CD who
are all pretty good, we need somebody who is way better than any of our
current SF/SGs.

We certainly need a another big to compliment Bosh, Bargs and Rasho, and
O'Neal is an upgrade for sure.

My favourite possible option is still Maggette.

So.. is this an example of top posting? ;-)

I agree with you completely.. Boris Diaw, yea that's pretty sexy
because you've seen him pretty much do it all in Phoenix, and be one
of their best defenders after Bell. But then again Phoenix doesn't
defend so what does that tell you?

But Jermaine O'Neal? That's a major coup.. I would love totally
welcome this trade. I personally think Jermaine O'Neal has been
pulling a Paul Pierce these past couple years (ie faking injury so he
doesn't have to play for a shit team).

He's also been the main (and only) big man for the Pacers for several
years now. Playing next to Bosh woudl change all that.

Diaw would be great on the Raptors, but not great enough to make a huge
difference. If we can get him for the 17th, that is cool, but for for Ford
I hope there is substance to the O'Neal or Maggette rumours. Also, it is
not clear why the Suns would want Ford, seeing as they are one of the half
dozen or so teams that already has a clearly superior starting PG.

Although yahoo is reporting the O'Neal deal is off.

If Maggette turns out to be a pipe dream, what do you think of Ricky Davis?
Haslem and Davis for Ford+?

Also, if we get our hands on a second rounder, Joey Dorsey is also
interesting, as is Nathan Jawai. Maybe Ford, Moon and the 17th to the Clips
for Tim Thomas and their 2 picks?

Cheers.

I'm sure things will heat up again come draft day, especially if one
of the players Indiana wanted falls to our pick. There haven't been
any rumors about Maggette.. just something I'd like to personally
see. Sign-and-trades rarely work out.

I've heard of Jawai but not Dorsey.. like I said in the past anyone
under 8th is probably a crap player... unless you have a time
machine. I don't like the idea of the Raptors spending $2M here and
$3M there for rookies who may or may not pan out. I also don't want
to see us trade for the potential of drafting some kid who may not
even make the team. Tim Thomas? Please tell me you're joking. I
would rather keep TJ than get Tim Thomas. Unless you mean the goalie
Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins. He's 5'11" and probably plays better
defense...without pads.

Maybe Jawai develops, but when does he reach full potential? 2 years
down the road when Bosh decides he's tired of waiting and signs
elsewhere? We're still a few pieces away -- let's win a playoff
series before we start trading valuable pieces for NBA hopefuls.

The O'Neal scenario puzzles me since he would seem to be redundant
with Bosh.
He's basically I guy that when you dump the ball into him, he's going
to shoot.

Joey Dorsey is a physical specimen but not much of a player. There
was a mention he was going to try pro football.

I think Maggette is a big-time player.

He's apparantly a great rebounder, so that's at least one basketball thing
he does well.

In the second round you draft guys that can do one thing really well and
hope they round out, imo.

That would suck if he was drafted by someone.

Yeah, if we can get Maggette that would be the best scenario, but if that
is not possible, what is the next best?

Odd, I didn't get ebrain's last post, just what you quoted of it. Did he
mention Ricky Davis?

Cheers.

Davis fails the "character" test, so I doubt they'd make a play for him.

That's a good point about O'Neal and his passing abilities. He's
never been known as a good passing big man. If he had learned to do
that, they could have made better use of Dunleavy's shooting
abilities.

Hopefully Maggette doesn't end up in Phoenix !

Ricky Davis is garbage anyway. Artest has been pretty clean for at
least 6 months now.. ;)

This will be difficult to believe now, but there used to be
discussions in the Celtic's ng about whether Ricky was more valuable/
better than Pierce.
He was pretty awful the last time I saw him play.

Well, there's the factor of Pierce being kind of a dick in terms of
faking his injuries last season for a shit team, or faking his
injuries period. But on the flipside there's Ricky Davis, who is an
idiot outright.

As players I don't see how you could think Davis is better though.
Paul Pierce is a warrior-type, whereas I see Davis as more of a
statsheet filler. He might have nice numbers but in crucial times of
a game he's not the go-to guy, whereas Paul Pierce is.

Ricky Davis, come to think of it, might not be TOO bad as a 3rd option
of the team. The problem with him is that he wants to be #1. Another
Mike James is not what we need right now.
