The Great EZE 06-27-2008, 04:08 AM Did Chicago make a hiccup by not taking CDR at 39?

Perhaps. I don't follow college ball. CDR gets lots of love from the
analysts but a lot of other NBA teams also passed on him. There's
probably a reason.
I wish the Bulls would have taken a Euro player with the second
rounder.

Presumably you hadn't heard about the trade yet when you posted this.
http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/trade_080626.html So we gave up two
future second rounders to move up three spots in the second round for
a 22 year old Turkish center who has never started a game. Wow. Not
that second rounders are anything more than Monopoly money, but still,
wow.

Kevin Pritchard strikes again?
Asik was a late first round pick in some mock drafts.
nbadraft.net had boston taking him at 30th
http://nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/omerasik.html
Strengths: Consistency is his calling card as he always gives his team some
points and an equal share of rebounds while being a capable shot blocker at
the Euroleague level (should be able to be a solid shot blocker at the NBA
level as well) ... Center seems to be his natural position as he loves
playing with his back to the basket possessing a good assortment of moves to
get his shot off ... He is a tenacious rebounder going for the offensive
boards as well as wiping the defensive glass ... A late bloomer who has
progressed considerably over the last 2 years. He possesses a good reach and
good hands, and his frame appears to be able to add weight ...
Weaknesses: To play at the NBA level, he has to work on his body as he is
thin by NBA center standards ... He does not possess the skill set to make
up for his good but not excellent size and probably is a little un-athletic
to go down to the four slot. Lacks a great shot from beyond the paint area.
Must extend his range ... Too right hand dependant. Should look to improve
his use of his left hand ... A poor free throw shooter at below 50%. Must
improve upon this to become an effective scorer ... His progression over the
past 2 years gives him a lot of hope, but he will need to continue to work
hard and bulk up and improve his shooting and skill level.
Notes: Had a great season for his Turkish club that opened up some eyes and
when Fenerbahce offered him to play at Europe's highest level on a
consistent basis he jumped at the opportunity. Thrown into the fire right
away he played from gameday 8 on to the end of the regular season.

Late first round picks tend to be Monopoly money too. :-)
On a tangent, how awesome was the 2005 draft? Bogut, Deron, Chris
Paul, and Felton at the top, but the depth is just awesome. Granger
at 17. Hakim Warrick at 19. Nate Robinson at 21. Jarrett Jack at
22. Francisco Garcia at 23. Luther Head at 24. Jason Maxiell at
26. Linas Kleiza at 27. David Lee at 30. That's 9 solid
contributors in the bottom half of the first round. That's real
money, not Monopoly. And the second round had Ronny Turiaf, Travis
Diener, Monta Ellis (!), Andray Blatche, and Ryan Gomes.

Except they get automactic real money contracts and they are stuck with them
2 years..

Man there are often not that mant still playing..

Even the so called bad draft years some jems can be found late.
'06 was consided weak and not so many have turned out well but there was
Carney at 16, Farmar, Rono at 21, Josh Boone at 23, Kyle Lowrey 24, Farmar
at 26 and some that may be yet like the kings Douby and Sergio Rodrigez who
blazers bought the pick.
Then late 2nd round was Daniel Gibson at 42, Milsap at 47, and Leon Powe at
49 who denver traded his rights for a future 2nd round pick.
Used to be that the talent pool was very limited from expansion, but now
with the rest of the world develping players maybe there is just more talent
balancing that back out?

He's not a great athlete, and doesn't do well in workouts. But anyone
who watched the ncaa tourney saw him play. I gotta think there's a
place for him in the league. I really liked watching him play.
I remember him saying that if he had gone to the Big Ten, he wouldn't
have done so well since they play so conservative.

Hadn't seen the trade. I don't know if the price is fair or if he's a
stiff but I'm glad Paxson did something. The guy Weems sounds like he
doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of making the roster.
Also, we've lacked body hair on the roster since Mark Randall left.
