View Full Version : The #1 pick -- who cares?

I'll watch the draft Thursday but I don't really care whom the Bulls
pick. They're not trading the pick, and they haven't worked out Mayo
to the best of my knowledge, so it's either Rose or Beasley, the
consensus top best players in the draft. I hope they pick Rose because
we need Deron Williams more than we need Glenn Robinson (high scoring
tweener forward? check) but whatever.

What concerns me more are the trades Paxson must make to thin and
balance and improve the roster. I imagine it's smart to wait until
after the draft, to minimize uncertainty. And I suppose Deng's and
Gordon's contract status still have to play out, and can't/won't until
later in July.

But if Paxon does not show a strong hand in remaking what is obviously
fatally flawed roster, I will consider donning Granville's London Fog
and urinating on Paxson's leg.

PS: Little Jon and Frank, I just dropped my daughter off for a week-
long sleepaway camp in Pescadero. The place is called Skylark Ranch.
Horses and the beach are involved. Any chance your kids are there too?

Glenn Robinson seems like a pretty good comparison for Beasley, except
Beasley is a way better rebounder than Robinson ever was. I lean
towards Rose as well, but I'd be fine with Beasley too.

No. Sophia will be doing a local non-sleepaway horse camp at some
point, but that's it. With Wendy being a teacher, we don't really
need the child care aspect.

Durant rebounded like a champ in college but not in the NBA. Part of
this is because he was shifted to guard.

I wonder if Beasley will be able to rebound in the NBA. Maybe, maybe
not. Given that he's short for a PF, maybe the better comparison is
Barkley? Then again, there is no one like the round mound of rebound.
I think he played guard in college!

Hi Sashank. No my kids are not there. The Rizzos find Pescadero too
foggy and cold for our taste. Good primer for October in Minneapolis
though. However when you are down there for pick up, you MUST go to
Duarte's tavern for chow. It's right in the heart of "town" by the one
stop sign. GREAT food. Get a slice of either the Strawberry-
Rhubarb pie or Ollallieberry pie for dessert. Great post by the way.
I agree totally on Rose v Beasely.

Robinson was a beast at Purdue. I liked Kidd best in that draft
though and said so at the time. Of course I'm a homer.

Yeah Beasley could be another Malik Rose too! Not a lot of great
6'7" PF, though it has been done.

I went to Duarte's back in 1994. I was on a month-long drive across
the West, and was driving up Highway 1 to San Francisco, to spend a
few days with a friend. The pies were so highly recommended that
instead of ordering lunch and dessert, I ordered three slices of pie.
They did not disappoint.

I know some other stuff there that is magnificent depending on which
day pickup is. If it is a Friday, get their cioppino. Also, their
artichoke soup is excellent. Every time we go down to Santa Cruz we
stop there for chow.
