View Full Version : The #2 pick
There are rumblings that Miami might trade the #2 pick.
Probably just posturing.
Still, would it be worth it to send Hinrich plus Thomas there for the
pick?
Pinning the franchise's hopes on two rookies has shades of the Curry-
Chandler debacle, but still, we would get the consensus two best
players in the draft, guys who proved themselves in their one year of
college ball (do you realize Beasley's numbers were better than
Durants?!). Plus, we keep our core of quality complementary players
intact -- Noah, Gooden, Nocioni, and Deng.
Then we can look to trade Gordon plus another complementary player for
a legit 3 guard, or hang onto him and let him and the untradeable
Hughes to backup Rose and Sefolosha.
I think Miami would go for this trade. Riley wants to win sooner
rather than later. He's rumored to be a long time Hinrich fan. Thomas,
I'm sure, has value around the league. Riley could argue he's getting
a near Olympian starting PG and highly drafted SF out of the deal,
players with reasonable contracts.

I like this a lot better than your Carmelo plan. (Melo's undoubtedly a star
and, skill-wise, a leader, but he strikes me as immature and unprepared to
take the next step. He's happy with his millions and his personal accolades,
I think. The fight was a bad look, for one, but drinking and driving in the
middle of a big playoff series? That's just ridiculous.)
I still haven't given up on Thomas, but then I still love Deng too. If we
could trade away Hinrich and Gooden, or something similar to that, for the
pick - and junk - I'd be thrilled to pieces. I'm happy to draft Rose and
have Hinrich move down to the two spot, but a
Rose-Sefolosha-Deng-Beasley/Thomas-Noah line up looks pretty nice to me.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah why don't you just ask Riley if he
wants you to use vaseline or sand when you pound him in the ass. It's
the same thing.

Jeebus Sashank, I thought Knicks and Lakers fans were myopic. We're
talking about a FRANCHISE CHANGING draft pick and you think they are
gonna be able to sell Hinrich and Thomas to the fan base instead of
Rose or Beasely. THe PR guy and Season Ticket sales guys would be the
first to choke Riley to death if he pulled the trigger on that one.

Hey, I'm just going on what the media's reporting -- that Riley is
open to trading the pick. Put that together with the fact that if the
Heat are to win again, it will be sooner rather than later (with Riley
clearly nearing the end of his tenure, Marion getting older, and Wade
probably bolting in two years), and with the fact that you can't count
on a rookie to be the second best player on a serious playoff
contender (even Durant was all over the place this year), and you have
the possibility of a trade. Really, you can pick any two out of Deng,
Gordon, Hinrich, and Thomas -- they just seem to need a PG more than
anything, and that's Hinrich (and not Rose -- hahah).
Wouldn't the # 2 pick from Miami count as $0 toward Hinrich & Thomas'
contracts? If so, we'd have to take alota junk back for that to work.

Not sure how draft picks are valued but you're right, we'd have to
take someone back. That's okay -- Hughes will need someone to play
cards with at the end of the bench by season's end.

The media is also reporting Marbury for Baron Davis.
Why is Wade bolting in 2 years? Who says?
Your last sentence sums up the entirety of the folly. They need a PG
and they have the #2 pick. If Rose is gone, then maybe they deal.

I just had a mental image of you stumbling around like Redd Foxx,
clutching his chest, swearing "this is the big one!"

Like Lebron, he only re-upped for four years after his rookie deal
expired. Miami's going south. Unless they turn it around, he'll jump
to one of the big market teams offering big money and a chance to win.
Not saying it'll be Chicago. Just saying.

Nah, it's just another NY rumor.

Well if they sign Marion, Rose or Beasely, and they can pay him more
than anyone else, I'm guessing he stays....

I'll bet you a lock of Derek Fisher's rare African American chest hair
scrounged from drain in the visitor's shower at Oracle Arena by a
rogue plumber under my employ that you are WRONG.

That's a tempting offer. Can your plumber put in a webcam so you can
remotely access "buttcrack cam" from Minneapolis?
