Some have mentioned Isiaha Thomas... Not going to happen. Bill Davidson and
Thomas are like oil and water. Also Dumars and Thomas are not as tight as
people think.

Dumars was sleeping with the enemy back in the day...

If Dumars wants to get fired in the next couple of years he'll hire
Thomas.

Does anyone in his right mind even think about Thomas as a viable
coach/GM candidate?

Curry would have little more support than Saunders did. How the hell
can he command respect when these guys are the former players he just
finished playing along side of a few years ago....

Nate McMillion did that with the Sonics.

How about that Joe Dumars? He fired his coach, then made bigger news at the
press conference.

Dumars said he will try to shake up his core, a surprisingly bold statement
that was intended to send a message to the rest of the league: Call me.

Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace are most likely to go. Rip Hamilton and
Antonio McDyess are most likely to stay. Tayshaun Prince falls somewhere in
between. I will explain all that in a second. But first, a word about the
coach:

Michael Curry is the heavy favorite to be the Pistons’ next coach. This does
not mean it’s a done deal. It definitely won’t happen this week.

Dumars will talk to Pistons assistant Terry Porter, the former Milwaukee
Bucks head coach, and former Mavericks coach Avery Johnson, a fellow
Louisianan who is interested in the job. But the job is clearly Curry’s to
lose, and he is unlikely to lose it.

Isn't Mcdyess like 35 or something? I cannot see them giving him a long term
contract.

33. He is starting a two year extension, a couple of weeks younger than

These guys aren't the Sonics.

These Pistons have ego problems and need a coach who's career is above
their own.
Laimbeer has what four rings? Two with Pistons, two with the Shock! He
can look at any player on this team and say you haven't accomplished
what I've done in this league or with this game.

Plus, Curry was an assistant this season, he's as much to blame as Flip
happens to be.

And BTW, the Sonics didn't win a title with Nate in drivers seat either.

And we see his lackluster coaching record.

Sure. He was not handed a playoff team.
He was on rebuilding teams, ...as curry will be...

He took the sonics from when they blew them up mid season in two years to
52 wins and
got them past the first round, Nate made a team out of a poorly mixed
roster... the exact same core team the next season after he took Portlands
offer dropped to 35 wins.

Nate then took over the worst team in the league with the worst chemistry
and worst reputation players and in full rebuilding mode... .
2 seasons later with great chemistry, great work ethic and a team wanting to
be coached... and Nate is much of that... in 3 years they went from 22 wins
to a .500 record including that 13 game win streak with a college age team.
2nd youngest in NBA history. They overacheived from their 25 win perdictions
after Oden was out is putting it mildly. ....

I am really looking forward to the blazers next season and beyond...Roy is
turning into a special player ...oden and rudy Fernandez incoming, the core
role players improving... Another lottery pick to use or trade on a record
that would have been 6th seed in the east... and in a year they can also go
on the FA market as they will be perhaps 2 max contracts under the cap. So
my guess is that lackluster record of Nates will be improving... =)

I thought this was interesting...what coaches do best in plays following
time outs?

Hey, couldn't Portland use a point guard? Don't they need a veteran guy
in the front court? How about trading Wallace and Billups for Oden and
Roy? We could throw in the Ambassador Bridge while we're at it.

Any sense how he'll do this year? How he's going to be integrated into
the lineup?

It's interesting, but I think some of that isn't so valuable on a one
season basis. The close games winning %, for example, would probably
vary a lot from year to year since it seems to generally be only a
handful of games and would swing a lot on just a couple of lucky bounces.

At any rate, it's interesting that Portland practices set plays a lot
more than most teams. I think the Pistons could have used more sharpness
on plays with just a few seconds left on the shot/game clock, although
they did have that great pass by Prince to Billups for the layup against
Boston in game 3.

Roy is a PG. to save energy Blake brings the ball upthe 1st 3 quarters then
hands off the ball to Roy and he runs the plays.
And then I think you may see a Roy and Rudy backcourt in a year or two if
Rudy is near as good as hyped and he comes over. Blazers have even had Paul
Allen in Spain recruiting...

Does not match salary...Not enough offense for ya either...better take "good
'sheed" LA too. =)

A bridge would be good.... and lets see...Portland wants a major league
baseball team....

Poor Nate what will a small ball coach do?
Oden likely starts right off the bat with Joel moving to the bench.
My guess is they run a ton of pick and rolls and with his defense get to run
more too.

Oden being out a year helped develop Outlaw and Aldridge ("good 'sheed") and
with the better record Oden will not have the pressure of 'savoir'.

Most interesting is that it was a wall street journal article...

Actually come to think about it I remember it as Portland had a good record
there the pevious season too, on games decided by 3 pts or less... hmmm.
found it ...11-6 ...so 11 out of 32 wins came in close games. ... Detroit
was 6-10 last year.

Coaching and winning for nate was an even bigger challenge last
year....Every starter was out injured and at times so was their backups that
had moved into the start...by the end of the season their starting center
was some BWS from OZ on a 10 day contract.

I will prefer next year the blazers have a winning record for games won by
10+

He's not a "true" point guard. Teams without a "true" point
guard/center/ball boy will never win.

Seriously, though, one thing I'm curious about Roy -- how tall is he
actually? Is he 6-6 in the same way that Stuckey is 6-5 (actually more
like 6-3.000001) or is he really that tall?

Detroit has a minor league football team that you could borrow for a few
years until the owner finally relinquishes control and the current GM is
finally fired.

Stucky rounded up is 6-5 in shoes (as normal for nba listings) and Roy is
6-6 rounded down.

measured at predaft camps
Stucky 6' 3.75" barefoot, 6' 4.5" with shoes 6' 7.25 wingspan 30.5"
no step vertical 34 max vertical

BRoy 6' 5.25" barefoot 6' 6.25" with shoes 6'-8.0 wingspan
34" no step vertical, 40.5 max vertical

Stucky was the second fastest out of about 100 at camp in the 3/4 court
sprint..
Conley Jr. 3.09 secs Stucky 3.11 secs.
Roy down the list his year at 3.27 (oden had the same time last year)

Paul Allen has a football team and according to the nfl owns the portland
market...... thanks anyway. =)
