That's a good pick. Plus it probably won't cost as much as Dorsey would
have.

Yes it was a much cheaper trade than it would have been for Dorsey and only
time will tell who is better. A corner in the second is nice too. So far
so good

I sort of preferred Ellis from the beginning. He can overpower AND out
quick the O linemen.

But that's not going to be his primary responsibility at the next level.
If Pressley develops... AT ALL... then Ellis' primary responsibility
will be to take up double teams and free up the remaining pass rushers.
The more interesting pick for me is DeMario Pressley. Ellis is going to
be a great player, barring injury. Pressley was the #1 rated DT in the
nation coming out of high school and the #11 overall senior in the
nation that same year. NC State's defensive linemen have all be labeled
as inconsistent, which isn't really fair, because their offense was so
horrible that they were stuck on the field for 60+ snaps a game. When
you essentially play a game and a half each week, of course you're going
to be inconsistent, because you're going to have to save up energy over
the course of a game.
Pressley will either go under the wing of Coach O and become a very
talented starter for this team, or he's going to be cut within 2 years.
If they can get him to play to his potential, he's got the potential
to be as good as Ellis. What impressed me when I watched him play was
how he could bullrush the lineman in front of him, chase down RBs in the
backfield, and recover when plays got behind him.
Likewise, Carl Nicks has the potential to be a monster RT or OG at the
NFL level. 6'5". 340 pounds. Gave up 1 sack in 2 seasons. Pancake
machine. Like Jammal Brown, he's a converted DT. He carried anywhere
from a late 1st to early 3rd round grade. Like Andy Alleman, the guy is
going to have go go through some growing pains. Unlike Alleman, the
dude is a legit talent who has the potential to dominate anywhere on the
line.
Unlike last season, where the Saints went after a bunch of small school
reaches, this season they seemed to go after talent, and only talent.
And here's the thing... the weakest link on almost every other team in
the NFC South is their offensive line. This team went from having an
adequate defensive line and horrible back 7 to, at worst, middle of the
road DBs and a very promising LB corps and defensive line.
I don't think this team is as physically talented as Dallas or the
Giants, but they're easily mentally tougher than those wimmen who wear
the star on their helmets. They could very well be ready to make some
noise in the playoffs this season.
