View Full Version : Draft thoughts
Terry Lomax 04-28-2008, 12:33 AM For the first round, I would have preferred trading down, picking a
lineman later in the first round, and getting an extra pick later. We
need so much help in many areas, an additional pick would have been a
good idea.
Long could be a bust. I hope his pedigree didn't make him overrated.
We drafted two wide receivers. Had we not made the idiotic move of
cutting Bruce (worst move since Rams moved to St. Louis), we wouldn't
have needed to replenish our receiving corps. Because Bennett stinks
and Looker is probably washed up, at least one of these rookie
receivers could see a lot of playing time.
The rest of the picks, position-wise, are solid, with no picks wasted
on quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends, or kickers/punters.
We picked a linebacker for the very last pick of the entire draft.
Cool if he makes the team and contributes on special teams.

Looks like he has the tools and the attitude. This defense needs a leader.

The Bruce fiasco is inexcusable. But what about Kevin Curtis? I'll bet
they could have kept him for half the money they paid Bennett. I'm willing
to give him one more season, but he needs to step up. Reche Caldwell may be
a help, also.

Agreed. All in all, I'm giving the Rams a B+ for the offseason as a whole.
I like the FA signings and the draft in general, but the Bruce move sucks.

Absolutely. Long and Carriker should anchor the D-line for the next 10
years.

Even if Bruce was not cut the Rams still needed new blood in this area.
Torry will be 32 and is battling bad knees.

The only grades that count is the W-L record and 2008's will not be
pretty. The NFL's sadistic schedule maker gave the Rams a tough one. It
will take a miracle or two to make the playoffs.
Dropping Bruce wasn't a bad thing. It cleared money go get what we really
need. I'm one of the biggest Bruce fans out there. Still am. He can't
stretch the field anymore and that hurts the run game as well as takes out
of big plays. We needed a guy that can flat out run and catch. Granted
Bruce use to be that, he isn't anymore. As far as Curtis, he was stuck in a
#3 spot with the Rams. He deserves to be a #2 which he is with Philly. I
wish the Rams would have cut bruce earlier to keep Curtis. I really think
the Rams could have traded down in the draft and still picked Donnie Avery
later in the draft. I liked all of the other picks granted the two picks in
the seventh round are pretty much both irrelevant. I still think the Rams
don't focus on size enough at the corner back position. I want a CB that is
atleast 6 feet tall. I saw Tye Hill at the draft party and I towered over
him. Put Bulger 15 yards away from Drew Bennet and see how many passes Hill
could block/intercept. It would be like playing keep away from my younger
brother. Remember the Rams took the first corner that year and could have
picked up Cromartie that seems to be doing pretty good with the Chargers.
