The pregame buzz at the AAC was about whether the off-court circus will
affect the on-court performance.
Avery Johnson said Jerry Stackhouse dissing Byron Scott was no big deal.
Avery wasn't so quick to blow off Josh Howard's chat about reefer on the
radio.
"It's what I call poor timing and poor judgment," Avery said, who noted that
he hadn't heard the actual interview.
Mark Cuban blew off a question about whether the Mavs might be distracted
and went into blame-the-media mode.
"It's the playoffs," Cuban said while sweating away on his Stairmaster. "If
you can't stay focused if there's a hurricane outside, then there's
different issues. These guys aren't sitting there reading the paper. The
only ones bringing anything up to these guys are you guys."
Well, Josh did go on the radio this afternoon.
"Do you think these guys are sitting there paying attention to what's on the
radio the day of the game?"
Well, Josh probably was, since he was on the air.
"Well, I understand. But who's it a distraction to?"
Him?
Cuban dismissed that Howard might be distracted and reiterated his original
point. For the record, J(o)-Ho also brushed off talk of being distracted.
"You want to talk about that after the game?" he said after being asked
about marijuana. "You want to talk about basketball?"
