Huh? You would prefer the guy who blew his knee on a mototrcycle? In a

Who helped his team to a 10-6 record last year and who
continued to ride the pine? Jones only claim to fame
came in the first eight games of his rookie year. If
the Lions are ever going to change, they need to get
rid of dead weight like Jones and stop being considered
a branch of the Social Security System.

Jones makes my point about the Lions drafts.
Another bust and this time it doesn't matter what "system" we're going
with. The Lions are better off trading all their picks for proven
players. 7 or 8 years into Millen's rebuilding project? When are the
Lions going to release HIM?

My turn;

FIRE MILLEN

What does this have to do with the 6th pick anyways? I thought they
swapped 6th for 7th to get Roy Williams. They got Jones near the end
of the 1st round in a trade with DEN or KC or something?

James Stewart was a proven player. Woody was a proven player.
How much did they, or any of the other proven players help.
Proven players only come to the Lions to collect a paycheck.
Hell man, didn't this organization have arguably the best
running back in the history of the NFL for about 10 years?
I said it before and I'll say it again, you Millen Haters are
obsessed and it clouds other aspects of the problem. 50 years
of bad GM's, an uncaring owner and a fanatical fan base thats
been willing to put up with it. Do you think there will be less
fans in the seats this year, even after the rise in ticket prices?
Yes proven players are what we need. He He, round and round we

They swapped a 6th for two of Clevelands. One they used for Roy
and the other to help them get KJ. If you think Roy is going
to be here in another year pass a little bit of what your
smoking this way. He will definitly test the FA market after
this year or Ford will pay him excessively, he'll be injured
in 09' and collect his money on the DL. The Lions soap opera
is endless. Round and Round.

Yep. And they made the playoffs every other year or so.

Not great, but not terrible. Millen is terrible. Terrible compared
to other Lions GMs. I was one of those who thought he was just what

Too much fan loyalty is a bad thing. When the Tigers sucked, people
stopped going. It hit Illich right in the pocketbook. But we're
football-obsessed in this town.

The only problem with cutting Jones is that we are left with Tatum
Bell and not much else. Jones could go on to have a good career
elsewhere if he could stay healthy. I doubt that.

Fans are afraid that if the Lions loose their fans, they will
move. Big Ford is too old to move. I think he would sell and
provisions could be made by the state and the NFL to ensure
they remain in Michigan. Indeed, if every game were played
in an empty stadium, the NFL would pressure him to sell. Like
refusing to air the auto companies commercials. I know He
personally has nothing to do with the company, but there
still is probably some way to influence him, maybe through
little Ford. BOYCOTT EVERYTHING FORD.

This years draft is supposed to be deep in RB's so we should
be able to get someone. How many ex-Lions have gone on to
shine after leaving, besides Hartings and maybe another?
Sure, they do great against US, but most are what they are.
Jones was non durable so lets move on.

You're wrong if you think that fan loyalty is a factor. Ford kept the
Lions in town during the 70s when they only sold out on Thanksgiving and
often played with the stadium half full -- and that was back when NFL
teams had a real financial incentive to fill the stands.

> I think he would sell and

The NFL would let the team be sold in a heartbeat to Memphis, Charlotte,
or any other sucker city willing to put up the money, and there are
plenty of sucker cities out there. They've happily let the second
biggest media market in the country go without a team for years, so why
would they care about whether or not Detroit has a club?

> Indeed, if every game were played in an empty stadium, the NFL would

Why? The owners would never empower the league administration to crack
down on a fellow owner like that just for putting out a substandard club.

> Like refusing to air the auto companies commercials.

They'd never give up the money, and they'd never let advertisers feel
like they could get hit with a shakedown because a team plays badly.

Why do you think Ford cares? If he didn't care back before revenue
sharing, why would he care now? If he didn't care during the days of the
Pinto, Russ Thomas, the Silverdome and Darryl Rogers, what makes you
think anything would affect him now?

Until the Takings Clause of the 5th Amdendment of the Constitution is
repealed, there's no pressure that could be put on Ford to change his
ways.

With no fans in the stands (not talking about half full), State
political and private pressure, constant embarassment for the
NFL, the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan, change
would come. It has been said before that not all NFL owners
care for each other. They ganged up on Al Davis and they could
do the same to Ford.

Any fool knows the goldmine a NFL franchise in Detroit brings. If
you think the NFL would be willing to give up this cash cow you
are underestimating them. They rightfully decided that the average
LA Fan is not passionet enough about football. People in LA
would rather go to the beach, or go snowboarding in the mountains,
as both Georgia Frontierre and Al Davis found out.

Embarassment and political/private pressure could change their mind.

Again, it's up to the fans to start a movement to embarass the
Lions and the NFL. Enough embarassement would tip the scale.
Personally I'm Boycotting Everything ford. What is immediately
needed is a skillful organizer. You as a fan have been
embarrassed for all these many years. Isn't it time to throw
it right back at them?

Because what I propose has never been tried. Because He/Himself has
never been held accountable. He always has had insulation, (Millen being
the latest). Because if the fans get smart and ONLY hold HIM
accountable and not his flunkies then we would have change.

I'm not suggesting his property be taken witout just compensation.
But his property represents City and State interests and I'm
sure He's getting preferential treatment in his business matters.
Pay him off. Handsomely if necessary. But the easier way is to
completely embarass him, his organization his fellow cohorts and
the league. I wonder if there are lessons to be learned with
respect to the Packers. A publically traded company?

I've never heard this and I don't believe it's true. It could be, it's
just it seems like it would be in reports about how a team didn't draw
enough to share the revenues. I believe every team gets an equal share

Well, I didn't make it up, but perhaps I'm confused and maybe
a team wouldn't get a full share. A sliding scale thing? Maybe
someone could direct us in finding an answer? Remember "NETRAT"?
He always kept the latest information on the Lions SALARIES and
CAP. Maybe he would know where to go for the info, but since he
doesn't post here anymore, I wouldn't know how to get in touch.
Could you Querry that other group you belong to?

I said he helped. Yeh, they had a decent QB too. With
the Lions and the way our offensive line played, God
throwing to Jesus wouldn't have helped. I hope they
don't lose focus and draft some glitzy RB. We need to
upgrade both lines. Period.

With those comments in mind, I'm going to say that Jones did a decent
job for the Lions. I'm not ready to nominate him for the Pro Bowl but
I wasn't ready to cast him away.

Regarding God at QB, the OL might fold but He'd raise his hands and
the rush would part, just like the Red Sea. He'd tuck the ball in and
walk in for the touchdown.

I just thought of something.. Are like Moses, doomed to never reach
the Promised Land? Yes, we can gaze upon it, with Super Bowl XL right
in our back yard. But we'll never be there.

Hey loser a-hole Snapp....how about you come up with an ORIGINAL
fucking thought? I give you 1 point for agreeing with Sir Creep, but
that leaves you with 1 point. You lost 9 points for copying what Sir
Creep said in post #18 under the thread "Rogers reported gone",
wherein Sir Creep stated:

Millen fleeced the Browns....referring of course to the draft day
trade down of one slot to get another 2nd rounder.
Now if we look at that trade, the Browns moved up one slot to get
Winslow Jr, and the Lions ended up with Roy Williams and (after
trading two 2nds to get back into the 1st) Kevin Jones. Who fleeced

But the fact you agree with SC's highly intelligent take from a couple
weeks ago, and the buffoons that infest this NG disagree with you (it
was probably a knee-jerk reaction, given your normal unconcionable

have AGREED with you as you lived vicariously through Sir C) means you
get to keep your single point for this fine post. Hell, I'll give it
TWO stars! :-)

SIR CRUDDY! where you been? Out chasing ambulances? Most of your
posts need to be restated anyway because you gather your thoughts
using crayons. Inscripting characters on a medium, forming words
and larger units of language like text has somehow eluded you.
Keep it up and you may be attacked by a usenet nazi. Never know
who may be reading this group?

Actually, when I posted, I was trying to tweak "Grey Matters",
but he didn't bite. He and I went back and forth about whether
the Lions should draft Winslow Jr. way back before the draft.
So the idea that your thought was original is laughable. Better
lay off the Guinness tonight. You can't afford to lose anymore
brain cells. You fucked out bastard of a horny faggot!

When was that? I don't pay much attention to college players, so this

I googled "grey matters winslow" and then clicked the eight
item on the list. After rereading alot of the old thread it
was "tim b" who I was thinking about.

After some furthur research it seems that within the last
year the NFL has implimented a plan to funnel more money
to low market teams (Cincinnati, Minnesota, etc). To qualify
they have to at least have 90% of the league average gate
receipts.

Offseason is boring. How about I start something and say that the Lions
should have drafted, um, Tatum Bell instead of Kevin Jones?

The Lions should have gone to Taco Bell and not bothered drafting
anyone. Why bring some young man into this cesspool?

Well, which is it? Either Lions players make too much while playing
a kids game or don't make enough for playing in this cesspool?

Maybe that explains why that assistant coach got arrested at Taco Bell last
year.

In regards to your original post about drafting Tatum Bell instead of
Kevin Jones, they could have had both as they were taken in different
rounds. Kevin in the first (30th pick) and Tatum in the second (41).
Detroit had a higher second round pick (37th) but went with LB Teddy
Lehman who while having flashes of greatness, hasn't been able to stay
on the field enough games to be worthy of a second round pick.

Detroit acutally had 2 picks in the first round of the 2004 draft.
They took Roy Williams at the 7th pick.

It wasn't a serious question, since I don't think there would have been
much impact on history, unless in this alternate world Jones gets a PhD
in archaeology, discovers the body of Satan buried under the Sphinx by
the UFOs, and then joins Chris Webber in leading the Pistons to 5
straight NBA championships.

If I had been serious, though, I'd point out that the Lions traded up for
the 1st round pick to get Jones, and if they hadn't, they could have
easily ended up with Bell. But mostly I threw it out there just to waste
time.

I wasn't aware they had traded up to get Jones. Heck, they'd have
been better off taking Julius Jones who was in the same draft class.
