Isaac Bruce has signed with the 49ers!
Bruce still has it. I predict he'll have about 1050 receiving yards
and 5 TD in 2008.
Good move by Bruce. The Rams have disrespected him, lowballed him,
paid more money to inferior receivers (Bennett), and done other things
to motivate him to find work elsewhere. Bruce took a big pay cut (ala
Faulk) two years ago, and the Rams are lucky he didn't sign with
another team then. Bruce has been underappreciated much of his time
in STL, for example when he was referred to as the team's "so-called
superstar".
Georgia may be dead, but her evil spirit lives on as Rams management
makes an idiotic blunder, continuing to alienate fans and players.
Mike Martz will certainly appreciate Bruce. Too bad Saunders didn't
seem to insist the Rams keep Bruce.
I'm nearly a "Bruce-ite". I'm rooting for Bruce to do well with his
new team, and will cheer when he succeeds against the Rams. The 49ers
are still a bad enough team the Rams have a decent chance of winning
even if Bruce has a big game, so I can have the best of both worlds of
a Rams victory and a good game by Bruce. I'm not truly an "ite"
because I'm not going to root against Rams receivers the way the
Warnerites wished ill against Bulger. If we somehow get a receiver
who can match Bruce's production, more power to him.
The Rams suddenly have a BAD receiving squad. Holt is great, but will
struggle as DBs only have to cover him. Most of his career, he's
enjoyed not having much pressure as the defense also has covered
Bruce, Faulk, Hakim, Curtis, etc. Without Bruce, Holt won't be as
good. Bennett STINKS! Looker probably won't do much (if he even
makes the squad), and it remains to be seen if Hagans can excel.
Jackson will probably be our most productive passing target.
Bruce is without question the best player in the history of the St.
Louis Rams. Faulk played six fewer seasons in STL.
I don't blame any folks from SoCal if they stop being Rams fans.
Bruce is the last link to LA, so it's a good time to end the fandom.
I essentially stopped being a Big Red fan when the last St. Louis
Cardinal left the team. When the Rams came to STL, they had more ties
to the St Louis Cardinals than the Big Red did, as we had Ron Wolfley
who played in STL.
