Following Thursday's trade deadline, The Bee recaps earth-shaking
swaps made this month and their effects on the league.
Feb. 1
Lakers get: Pau Gasol and 2010 second-round pick.
Grizzlies get: Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, rights to
Marc Gasol (Pau's brother) and two first-round picks.
The aftershocks: The Lakers immediately moved to the head of the class
in the Western Conference by adding a 7-footer who can score and
rebound. Has anybody heard Kobe Bryant complain lately?
Feb. 6
Suns get: Shaquille O'Neal.
Heat gets: Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.
The aftershocks: The Suns gave up a skilled athlete who fit their fast-
paced tempo. Phoenix, however, hopes Shaq can fill the void that has
left its recent title hopes empty.
Saturday
Hawks get: Mike Bibby.
Kings get: Anthony Johnson, Tyronn Lue, Shelden Williams, Lorenzen
Wright and a 2008 second-round pick.
The aftershocks: The Hawks hope Bibby can direct them to their first
playoff appearance since the 1998-99 season. The Kings get three
players with expiring contracts.
Tuesday
Mavericks get: Jason Kidd, Malik Allen and Antoine Wright.
Nets get: Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager,
Keith Van Horn, cash considerations and two first-round picks.
The aftershocks: Unable to fill the void left by Steve Nash's
departure via free agency in 2004, Dallas puts its hopes on an aging
Kidd to keep up with a conference full of young, talented point
guards.
Wednesday
Spurs get: Kurt Thomas.
SuperSonics get: Francisco Elson, Brent Barry and 2009 first-round
pick.
The aftershocks: The defending champion Spurs don't hurt themselves by
adding another veteran.
Thursday
Hornets get: Bonzi Wells and Mike James.
Rockets get: Bobby Jackson, Adam Haluska, 2008 second-round pick and
rights to Sergei Lishouk.
Grizzlies get: Marcus Vinicius and rights to Malick Badiane.
The aftershocks: In an exchange of former Kings, the Hornets and
Rockets add tough role players who can provide spark off the bench.
Thursday
Cavaliers get: Ben Wallace, Wally Szczerbiak, Joe Smith, Delonte West
and 2009 second-round pick.
Bulls get: Larry Hughes, Shannon Brown, Drew Gooden and Cedric
Simmons.
SuperSonics get: Donyell Marshall, Ira Newble and Adrian Griffin.
The aftershocks: The Cavaliers just got the attention of the Eastern
Conference. Give general manager Danny Ferry his due for nailing this
blockbuster at the trade-deadline buzzer.
