The Trade is Dead! For now. D. George's contract allowed him to nix
any trade, and he did. Looks like spin control for players who would
have been traded. Business is business for players too, owners, and
George made a business decision.

Hardly... If Cuban wanted to kill it then he could have done it at anytime
and Cuban is not one to care about what folks think. It was all DG... If
there is any conspiracy involved then it is Cuban showing that he can trade
players at anytime to shitty teams...

I don't think HE could have pulled out, it was a contract. His only
way out would have been another contact that overrode the deal,
which is what happened. I still think a deal that involves Kidd to Dallas
will happen shortly.

He went 0-11 from the field, and 0-2 in free throws last night.
Show this man some love!

I'm not sure if I hate him or love him. On the one hand,
he prevented _allas from getting Kidd, so I love him. On the
other, he prevented them from mortgaging their future, so I
hate him.

Isn't the operative word "delayed" rather than prevented?
I can't believe they are all saying "gee this guy has a Bird clause
let's take our marbles and just go home." They have a week.
George will get $2M maybe? One from Cuban, and another
from the Nets who would love to dump the Kidd contract. The Net
mil could come from the $3M the Mavs are scheduled to give
them in the trade. It's going to cost both parties something. Or,
a third party involvement?

Honestly, I have no idea what the value of the Bird clause is to
George. However, I kind of doubt it is worth more than
$2-3 mil. I don't think he will be offered more than that
by the Mavs next year, nor could he command more as a free agent.
He tried free agency last year, and ended up back with the Mavs.
Has his value gone up since then? To the Mavs? To anyone else?

That $3M Cuban is paying the Nets sounds like old times. When
Cuban first came in the league, and started to make trades, his
trading partner always demand a 2-3 mil kick-in bonus. The joke
around the league was that the rich kid was a sucker to throw in
a couple mil in cash for a bonus to close the deal. Hey, you
may as well ask for it, you just might get it.
